I believe the employability skills that are stated in this website are skills that I possess; the first problem solving is shown in that I do not ask teachers or help before thinking it through thoroughly myself and asking the opinions of my peers. Communication is relevant because it is something brought up in many of my school subjects, it is a key part of life. I also need communication to interact with my teachers, peers and family. I have been in many sporting teams, and know the importance of a team. I believe that teamwork is a key in all aspects of life and all communication; these two attributes are very close to each other and have much in common. I think I would like to work on my communication and teamwork some more, because even though I think I possess these skills it is always good to work on these skills, always improving.
I think that the subject I am doing this year, and the ones that I plan to do in the future are all subjects that may be useful in engineering. Of course, specialised math is a prerequisite, and the only prerequisite of electrical engineering, if I chose to stay at this level and get good ATAR scores i would be able to get a degree in many forms of engineering. There is also an assumed knowledge part of getting into engineering at university; this is physics which is a subject which I am considering starting next year because it combines maths and sciences into one, which sounds very fascinating to me. I think if I was to peruse a career in engineering I would do physics because it would give me extra knowledge and help me out because I think that engineering would be a very tough subject. Next term I have been assigned to control technology, a subject that would benefit me and my knowledge of engineering because it is all about working with technology and mechanics to create a device. English is a compulsory subject that may benefit my career as an engineer because of report writing, it will also help with my communication skill with public speaking. My goal for English is to learn as much as I can until the end of year 11, when it becomes compulsory no longer, and evaluate whether it will help me in the career I wish to peruse and how it fits in with my other subject choices. I am learning Italian, I think this will benefit a career in engineering because it would benefit my resume as well as an opportunity to converse with and sell to the Italian market. My subject goal is to really think through what career i would like to peruse and if it is engineering i would like to do specialised maths and physics next year.
I am a Driver Analyser this means that I have a desire to achieve, I am self motivated and logical. This compliments my career choice because it describes me as creative, quick thinking and inventive. While engineers need to be logical they also need to have creativity to solve problems and I believe that I have a good balance of both. Driver Analysers are meant to be assertive; I hope this would lead me into a higher position and expand my career. From my interview with John Abbott I have heard that engineers can sometimes be pushed around, I hope that my assertive nature would stop this from happening. John also told me that it is key to get in with a good company that treats you well; I think that my task-oriented nature would help me achieve that. Some things stated in the personal development section of my booklet include discover how to verbalise your conclusions, i think that sometimes I do not verbalise my conclusion well and is something that I could work on. This relates to the communication skill which is a goal that I have already set.
I think I would be a good electronic engineer because I love to build things and all electronic items interest me. This may include TV, my computer and my phone but these things are the items that I would like to create. Through my research I have seen that my personality suits this career well, as well as the subjects that I am interested in.
